Lelz’s second collection is entitled “Dvoeverie” meaning “dual faith” in Old Church Slavon-ic.‘The worship of Slavic gods has persisted in unofficial folk religion until modern times but the Slavs’ resistance to christianity gave rise to a whimsical syncretism which was defined as dvoeverie.’
Lelz celebrates his dual-heritage and the continued preservation of Slavic mythology and how it survives through the subtlety of dvoeverie reflected in floral embroideries, leather patchworks and traditional headdress.
